HOW TO CHANGE COMBINATIONS
ON MASTER LOCK© BUILT-IN COMBINATION LOCKS

1630 * 1631 * 1654 * 1655 * 1658 * 1659 * 1670 *1671

Built in combination locks manufactured by Master Lock© and commonly used on school lockers provide for one of five
pre-assigned combinations to be active at any time.  It is generally assumed that school administrators will want to change the combinations at the end of each school year to provide some degree of increased security for next year.  The procedure, although time consuming when performed on a large number of lockers; is simple and straightforward on an individual basis.

Note:  Before proceeding, it will be necessary to obtain the control key and chart listing each locks' possible combinations from the locker custodian or other administrator.

   PROCEDURE:

Insert the control key and turn it right one-quarter turn.  Open the locker door.

Revolve the dial to the right at least one complete turn, stopping at zero (0).

Depress push-button on back of lock and hold in depressed position.

With other hand, turn dial right to number 48. Do not turn dial more than two numbers with button depressed.  Then release push-button.

Turn dial to the right until you hear click.  Then stop.  The combination has now been changed.

Close locker door.  Turn key one-quarter turn to the left, back to the original position, and remove.

The combination has now been changed automatically to the next assigned combination shown on your control chart.  Dial the new combination (see chart for dialing numbers) to be certain that it has been properly changed.

If you make a mistake, dial the first combination (see your control chart for all assigned combinations).  If that does not work, dial the next combination, etc., until you ascertain the correct one to open the lock.  You will then have to repeat the above sequence as many times as it takes to cycle through the available combinations until you get back to the one you originally intended.

IMPORTANT: When you're finished, make sure that all combination changes
are reported to the control chart custodian and properly documented.
